George Chen, PhD - Area VP, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) China/HK Medical and Clinical Research

陈之键医学博士现任葛兰素史克中国香港区副总裁及首席医学执行官,负责中国及香港地区的临床研发,医学事务,药物安全及医学监管。陈之键博士曾任美国礼来公司(Eli Lilly) 企业发展战略高级顾问及全球医学顾问,负责全球肿瘤产品的开发。
陈之键博士毕业于上海医科大学,并获宾夕法尼亚大学霍顿商学院MBA,于上海肿瘤医院及纽约医学院接受临床培训,专长肿瘤及免疫学。在进入制药企业前,陈之键博士曾任美国国立卫生研究院 (NIH)研究员 (Principal Investigator)。在国际权威专业杂志上发表医学研究论文35篇,是美国临床肿瘤学会,美国癌症研究协会及美国免疫学家协会的会员。

Daxu Fu, PhD - CTO, Shanghai Centre of Research & Development of New Drugs

Professor Daxu Fu, Ph.D in Bioinformatics, Fudan university, School of Life Science. M.S. in Fine Chemical, East China University of Science and Technology. From 1988 to 1997, he was director of Institute of New Drugs, Shanghai International Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. In 1997, he joined the Shanghai Centre of Research & Development of New Drugs. Now he is CTO of this center.

傅大煦,研究员,复旦大学生物信息学专业博士,华东理工大学精细化工专业硕士。1988-1997年,上海五洲药业有限公司研究所所长;1997年至今,上海新药研究开发中心项目管理部部长、中心总工程师。

Charles Hsu, PhD, MBA - Partner, Bay City Capital; Co-founder, LEAD Therapeutics

Dr. Hsu has been an active venture capital investor since 1990.  Prior to joining Bay City Capital in 2007, he was with Pappas Ventures, Walden International and Advent International.  He has served as a lead investor or board member for more than 25 life science and healthcare companies, and he was a founding investor of Ribozyme Pharmaceuticals (IPO in 1996). He received his PhD and MBA from Stanford University, and AB in biochemistry from Harvard University. 

Jason (Gang) Jin, PhD - President/CEO, MaxyBio Corporation; SVP Shanghai BioChip Co. Ltd.

Dr. Jin is focused on developing solutions for the pharmaceutical/biotech industries based on China/U.S. collaboration. He also serves as Professor for Shanghai Institute of Biology Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He was previously with Purdue Pharma, Salk Institute, National Engineering Center for Biochip at Shanghai, and Shanghai Zhongshan Hospital. Dr. Jin received Postdoctoral Fellow, PhD and MS degrees in Bioengineering from University of California, San Diego, and medical training from School of Medicine at Fudan University.

Kevin Li, PhD - Partner, HBM BioMed China

Dr. Li has extensive experience in biotech entrepreneurship and venture capital investment. He is a partner at the HBM BioMed China, a venture capital fund focused on China-related biomedical investment opportunities with $100M under management. Prior to joining HBM, Dr. Li was Managing Director of Fountain Healthcare Management, identifying growth opportunities in the healthcare field in emerging markets. Previously, he was with the Bethesda, MD based Toucan Capital, a $120M venture capital fund focused on biotech investment. As an entrepreneur, he was the co-founder and senior manager of several product and service companies in the biomedical space. Dr. Li is a graduate of Nankai University and Indiana University, and received training at Stanford University.

Yuwen Liu - Vice President, BioBay / Suzhou Venture Group

Yuwen Liu started her career with Capsugel®, a division of Pfizer in Suzhou, China as a quality engineer in 1997 and was promoted to be QA manager in April 1998. In May 2000, following strategic expansion of Capsugel China, she transferred to New Business Development department managing new product market opportunity exploration in great China region. In May 2003, she moved to Shanghai as General Manager to set up the representative office for Perrigo Company (the world’s largest manufacturer of OTC pharmaceutical and nutritional products for the store brand market) and is taking charge of all related market development activities including JV’s in China as well as supply management in other Asia Pacific regions such as Japan, Korea, Taiwan etc. In Dec. 2005, she moved back to Suzhou as executive vice president for BioBay, a bio science park funded by Suzhou Industrial Park, whose mission is to build an integrated comprehensive platform for biotech, pharmaceutical and nanotech research and development in China. And then, she was promoted as GM of BioBay and VP of Suzhou Venture Group in Sep. 2006. She graduated from China Pharmaceutical University with an MS in Pharmaceutics and MBA at Fudan University, China and Norwegian Management School, and is a licensed pharmacist.

Dongxu Qiu, PhD, MBA - President and Founder, BioOperations Consulting, Inc. 

Dr. Qiu is an independent consultant to the biotech industry, providing assistance with research, product development, business development, operations, technology transfer, and venture capital financing.  He has also served in interim management positions including Managing Director of China for HUYA Bioscience International, VP Operations, Wex Pharmaceutical, General Manager, Nanning Maple Leaf Pharmaceutical, and CEO, Beijing Joinn Pharmaceutical.  Previously, he was with MDS Capital, Biomira, AltaRex and Arius Research. Dr. Qiu holds a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry from Peking University and an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business, the University of Western Ontario.

Greg B. Scott – President and founder, ChinaBio® Accelerator

Mr. Scott has helped launch over twenty life science startups as an investor or advisor. He founded ChinaBio® Accelerator and Life Science Angels, private equity investment groups focusing on early stage biotechnology and medical device companies. Mr. Scott previously founded and sold three technology companies, and held senior management positions with PricewaterhouseCoopers, Capgemini and MCI's outsourcing division.

Zhaohui (Zoe) Wang, PhD, JD - Partner, Perkins Coie LLP

 

 

 

Zhaohui (Zoe) Wang focuses her practice on patent infringement and validity opinions, patent prosecution, freedom-to-operate analyses, patentability analyses, technology transfers and licensing. Her work involves technologies in the fields of life sciences, nanotechnologies, data processing, and devices.
She also has experience advising clients in public offerings and private placements of equity and debt securities, mergers and acquisitions, counseling companies on general corporate matters, and advising clients with respect to the Securities Act of 1933, the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002.
She received her J.D. from Columbia University School of Law in 1999 and her Ph.D. in cell biology and biophysics from Duke University in 1996.

 

Michael Warnecke, JD - Partner, Perkins Coie LLP

Michael Warnecke is a partner in the firm's Patent Litigation practice. He has focused his practice on major patent litigation cases, including international patent, technology licensing and other intellectual property matters. He has been first chair on numerous patent litigation cases in which he represented companies such as Caterpillar, Inc., Brunswick Corp., MetLife and Mitsubishi Corp. In one of the most significant cases of his career, Michael obtained successful damages and injunctive relief for Rockwell International on a major trade secret matter. The case was later affirmed on appeal where it garnered substantial national media attention for its innovative use of computer graphics to present evidence.
In the 1990s, Michael was selected by the People's Republic of China trade delegation, led by Vice Premier Li Lanqing, to host a two-day seminar for American automotive and after-market companies, as well as the Chinese delegation on the legal aspects of doing business in China.
At the request of the Chinese government, he also provided advice on the redrafting of the 1984 Patent Act. Similarly, in 1993, he provided advice on the Unfair Competition Act, which was adopted in 1994.

Don Williams, JD - Partner, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati

 

Don S. Williams is a partner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where he practices corporate and securities law. His practice encompasses a broad range of general corporate and transactional matters, including venture capital financings, public offerings, and mergers and acquisitions. Don has represented private and public companies across many industries, including Alchip, Autodesk, BCD, Bridge Pharmaceuticals, Google, EPIN, Fangtek, Polycom, and Sigma Designs. He also represents investment banks, including Credit Suisse First Boston, JMP Securities, Morgan Stanley, and UBS, in connection with public offerings, as well as venture funds, including Sequoia, Granite Global, SBCVC, IDG, IFC, CID, JAFCO, and Advanced Technology Ventures, in connection with portfolio investments. Don also has represented both buyers and sellers in a large number of M&A transactions, including Google in various transactions in China. He received his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1993.

 

David Xu, PhD - Managing Partner, Mingly China Growth Fund

 

David Xu is the Managing Partner of Mingly China Growth Fund. David has over 10 years of investment banking experience in China. Previously, David worked at EBICC, Create Capital, China Fortune Securities and Goldman Sachs. He also worked as a research fellow at Columbia Medical Center for 7 years. David received his BS degree from University of Science & Technology of China, Ph.D. in Microbiology from Columbia University, and MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management.

 

徐立新博士是名力中国成长基金的管理合伙人。 徐博士在中国有十多年的投融资经验。此前,他曾在坤茂国际投资公司,格雷特,中富证券和高盛公司工作。 他还在哥伦比亚医学中心做过七年的科研工作。 徐立新博士本科毕业于中国科技大学,并获得了哥伦比亚大学微生物学博士和麻省理工学院斯隆商学院工商管理硕士. 

 

Fan Zhang, MBA - Founding Managing Partner, Sequoia Capital

Fan Zhang is a Founding Managing Partner of Sequoia Capital China, a venture capital firm managing approximately $1 billion in funds dedicated to investing in high growth companies in China. Sequoia Capital, founded in 1972, manages over 20 funds worldwide that have more than $6 billion under management.  Fan is a Director on the Boards of Asia Media (TSE: 2149), Comsenz, CTS Media, Huarui Medical, Lubao New Energy Group Co. Ltd, Maxscend, UUSEE.com, and Zhaozuo.com.  Prior to founding Sequoia Capital China, Fan was with DFJ ePlanet Ventures where he had been a board member of Baidu (NASDAQ: BIDU) and Kongzhong (NASDAQ: KONG), and led the investment in Focus Media (NASDAQ: FMCN). Fan was named one of the "Top 10 Most Active Venture Capitalists" in 2004 and 2005 by Zero2IPO, and in 2006 was selected as one of the "Top Venture Capitalists in China" by Forbes magazine. Fan holds an MBA and a BA (with Distinction) from Stanford University. He began his university studies at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China.

Qiang (Sean) Zhang, PhD - Principal, BioVeda China

Sean Zhang, Ph.D., MBA, is a Principal of BioVeda China. Dr. Zhang has over 9 years of experience in the Life Sciences Industry in science, management and corporate development in China and the U.S. Prior to joining BioVeda China, Dr. Zhang was Director of International Business Development of AsiaPharm. At this position, Dr. Zhang has been responsible for international partnership and M&A activities. Before his tenure at AsiaPharm, Dr. Zhang was Business Development Manager at Abmaxis, where he managed partnership project of therapeutic antibodies. Prior to that, he was Project Manager/Scientist at Connetics Corporation, where he led project teams and conducted preclinical drug development studies. Prior to joining Connetics, he worked at the University of California, San Francisco as Postdoctoral Research Fellow. Dr. Zhang received his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of Chicago and Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Michigan Business School.  

Kan Zu - Partner, Unitalen Attorneys at Law 

Mr. Zu has participated in all phases of patent prosecution, litigation, and licensing of IC, electric components and test methods, computer software, telecommunication equipment. He has negotiated numerous patent licenses, software license, distribution agreements, and agreements relating to e-commerce. He also has extensive experience in trademark registration and enforcement, as well as litigation of copyright infringement. He has handled dozens of counterfeiting and pirate issues for a number of worldwide known companies. Prior to joining Unitalen, Mr. Zu worked as a lawyer with a famous local law firm and as an in-house intellectual property counsel with Matsushita Electric (China) Co., Ltd. handling hundreds of patent prosecution and litigation cases involved in telecommunications, electric components and computer software and hardware. Mr. Zu received his LLM from New York University School of Law in 2001.

 

Mr. Stern has been CFO at Vital Therapies, Inc. since its inception in mid-2003. He has over 20 years experience in capital formation, acquisitions, financial strategy, planning and analysis, accounting and SEC reporting, IT and administrative management in growth-stage high technology and biotechnology companies. Mr. Stern received his MBA in 1976 and his BS from University of California, Berkeley.
